Firewall of information

After sitting in my classes for months, constantly hearing “but that page is blocked”, I knew there was a story there. This is a national issue, the blocking of information to students, that was affecting the students of my school. After speaking to students, teachers, local organizations and administration, it became clear that this story was not going to be a linear line to write. It took many revisions of this angle to make it a comprehensive story. I wanted the information to be clear to students on why information is blocked and what the repercussions are for searching something blocked.

A day that changed american history: The Kent State Shootings

My grandmother and I regularly have conversations revolving around the past and present political scene in America, leading me to want to know more about her past. This piece gave me an excuse to do what I love: get to know more about those around me. After nearly an hour long interview, I was ready to compile my grandma’s life into a story article: a task that seemed impossible. After much planning, and reworking, I finally got it. I am grateful for this interview because not only did I learn more about my grandma, it strengthened my relationship with her- that was a pleasant consequence of this story.
